FAQ – Fuel Treatments

Fuel is a natural product that even after being refined, still needs additional help to make it efficient to use in today’s motors and machines. How much improvement is needed depends on the origin of the fuel, equipment that will use it, and where it is being used. Our fuel treatments can help reduce fuel consumption, maintain fuel injectors clean, stabilize light and heavy oils, disperse the existing water, greatly reduce fumes and emissions, has a detergent and antioxidant effect, work as an effective biocide, improve the pour point, reduce the corrosion problems generated during and after combustion, reduce maintenance costs and prolong the life of the machine, and increase the fuel’s lubricity for fuels low (LSD) and ultra-low (ULSD) in sulfur fuels.

Xp³ fuel treatments not only clean up what problems already exist in your engine, but prevent any issues from forming. Amongst other benefits, fuel additives will:

The exact amount of MPG savings that one will see is impossible for any company to predict as there are many variables that go into calculating it. It all depends on the fuel used, type and condition of motor/equipment, driving conditions, time, etc.. That being said, based on all the feedback and information we have gathered from our thousands of consumers, the savings in the short, medium, and long term met or exceeded their expectations.

Xp³’s biggest advantage is that it is a multi-functional fuel additive. With just one additive, the majority of the fuel’s needs are resolved.

The original manufacturer’s warranty will not be voided if you use our Xp³ fuel treatment products. Xp Lab has consulted with over 20 different engine manufacturers and they all state that they only provide warranty on their products and that the use of Xp³ products does not void their warranty.

In the majority of the countries, authorities require that the oil companies reduce the amount of sulfur in the diesel.  The reduction varies from country to country, and can vary from 50 ppm to 2 ppm. In the United States, the ULSD (Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel) needs to be below 15 ppm while just a few years ago the limit was 500 ppm.

The dramatic reduction in sulfur caused the diesel to lose all of its lubricity, which in turn left the injection system very vulnerable. Today’s diesel actually dries out the metal parts and causes premature wearing to the injection system and the motor. The other problem that low sulfur causes is lower fuel power.

Yes, it will. Xp³D-L was formulated to improve the absent lubricity that light fuel, diesels low in sulfur, and kerosene have.  Therefore it will prevent premature damage to the system.

Carbon deposits are unburned fuel amassing inside the engine in very hard bundles. These bundles are hard enough to do physical damage to the metal of the engine. New engines operate on an small ledge between optimal efficiency and a misfire, and with so little margin of error, any small variation will produce carbon deposits in the combustion chamber.

Xp³ create a more efficient combustion and thus reduce the formation of carbon deposits.

Fuel injectors fail when debris (water, dirt particles, etc.) or rust finds their way into the system and, after time, plug up the nozzle, the armature, or the nozzle needle gets stuck. These issues reduce the efficiency of the fuel and prematurely damage the injectors. 

Xp³’s ability to disperse existing water in the fuel, which reduces corrosion problems during and after combustion, combined with its detergent and lubricating capabilities, cleans and maintains clean the fuel injectors and extend their life.

Dispersion is the ability to separate and maintain a part infinitely minute, in this case a water molecule, and keep it separated from the rest of the water molecules and suspended in the fuel. What Xp³ does is disperse the water molecules and maintain them separated and suspended without allowing them to form a mass of water. This allows them to be burned or evaporated without causing any harm to the motor.

Xp³ dissolves preexisting gum varnishes and carbon deposits avoiding new formations. It will also prevent fuel oxidation and allows injectors; pump plungers, filters and pipes to be kept clean.  This will result in a better combustion and a dramatic reduction in maintenance costs.

Most of the gasoline pumped in the US today contains ethanol blends. The majority of new engines can run safely on E10 blends when gas is of high quality. However some engines are not designed to use it, and even when following all precautions, ethanol fuel could cause damage.

Ethanol is a strong solvent and cleaner, and while small amounts will keep your engine clean, excess of alcohol will wear down engine parts. Ethanol attracts, absorbs, and holds moisture in the fuel tank which increases the amount of water in the fuel.

The most common damages to the engine/parts ethanol fuel could cause are: Gumming-up of fuel injectors, carburetors, and buildups due to release of accumulated deposits in engine from ethanol alcohols solvent properties. Wear and damage of internal engine parts, damage to metal, rubber, and plastic parts of fuel system. Corrosion of metal parts in fuel system and engine. Deterioration of elastomers and plastic parts. Deterioration off non-metallic materials. Drying, softening, stretching and/or cracking of rubber hoses, seals and other rubber components. Dirty and clogged fuel filters.

Our product Xp³G for gasoline and ethanol blends is the result of years of experience and has proven to be the proper solution to dramatically reduce the potential damages generated by the use of this kind of fuel. This product was created and developed over 18 years ago when we began our operations in Brazil as Brazil has been using all kinds of ethanol blends for 20+ years. Since then have continued to improve our formulas with the ever changing needs of the market.

Low temperature corrosion is produced by the formation of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) during combustion when the surfaces have lower temperature than the dew point of the flue gases. Condensation appears on the metal surfaces when the temperature changes from cold vapor to hot.  This condensation reacts with the sulfur trioxide forming sulfuric acid which is highly corrosive.

Xp³ inhibits the catalysis of SO2 to SO3 acts both as a vanadium compound neutraliser and a combustion catalyst. It will eliminate the cold end corrosion problems as well.

Xp³ is very effective in the control and inhibiting of the formation and growth of algae and bacteria. Note, it has not been formulated to treat highly contaminated fuel tanks.

Viscosity improvement is tied to the carbon asphaltic structure that creates resistance to flow and to an increase in viscosity. Once treated with Xp³, the viscosity will diminish as will its resistance to temperature. You will need less heat to reduce the viscosity so it can flow and burn.

While some ships may use regular diesel (D2), the majority of the diesel used in ships and ports, referred to as marine diesel, may contain a higher amount of sulfur and minerals. Regardless of which fuel they use, they are exposed to a lot of water, salt and minerals, that create a huge problem in the combustion and operation of the boilers and engines. For over 20 years, hundreds of ships have used Xp³D-MR, and some aren’t allowed to leave the port without it.

Octane rating is a standard scale used to measure the fuels ability to withstand compression inside the motors cylinder before igniting. If the octane number is too low, the fuel ignites from compression instead of via a spark from the spark plug. This causes a “knocking” affect which damages your engine and reduces fuel efficiency.

Xp3G for gasoline solves the majority of the problems of commercial fuels, however in the cases where low octane fuel is being used in very cold areas or in high altitude, it is recommend that you use our octane improver, Xp³G-O. Due note that Xp³G-O should only be used if you hear “knocking” in the motor, and never exceed the recommended dosage

Cetane number is a measure of a fuel ignition delay. This is the time period between the start of injection and start of combustion (ignition) of the fuel. Higher cetane fuels will have shorter ignition delay periods than lower cetane fuels. Cetane number is an important measure of ignition quality, or cold-starting ability. Diesel fuels with cetane number lower than minimum engine requirements can have difficulty starting up, especially in cold weather or at high altitudes.

Xp³D (diesel formula) should be enough to facilitate ignition even when the fuel is low in cetane. However in those cases where the temperatures are extremely low, we recommend using the Xp³D-C cetane improver in fuels low in cetane. The cetane increase could be between 1-7 points.

Oil companies estimate what pour point the fuel should have in order to cope with next winter’s temperature and their decision is based on past experiences and reasonable predictions. For example, if they believe that the next winter’s lowest temperature will be – 15° c (5° F), they will produce a fuel ready to operate at this temperature.  Xp³D-W should be used where and when the fuel available in the local market has a higher freezing point than what people using the fuel are experiencing at that time and place of consumption. The use of Xp3 will reduce the pour point of the fuel by an additional 10° to 30°.
